MTEL Middle School Mathematics and Science Test
The Mathematics and Science MTEL® test for middle school has ten content subtests: number sense and operations, patterns, relations and algebra, geometry and measurement, data analysis, statistics and probability, trigonometry, calculus and discrete mathematics, history, philosophy and methodology of science, chemistry, physics, biology, and earth and space science. The candidate is also tested on the ability to apply knowledge and understanding of the subject matter by writing an essay and/or short answer that evaluates and analyzes a subarea of mathematics and science at the middle school level. There are 90 to 110 multiple choice questions covering the content subareas that count 80percent of the final score and two open response questions relevant to the understanding and application of the content that counts 20 percent of the final score: one question on mathematics that counts 10 percent and one question on science that counts 10 percent.
