MTEL Physics Test

The MTEL Physics Test is composed of 100 multiple-choice questions that account for 80% of the overall test score, and two open-response questions that provide 10% each toward the final score.

The multiple-choice section of the MTEL Physics Test focuses on a number of subareas. The Nature of Science contributes 12% to the final test score. The subarea Force and Motion is 14% of the score, as are both the subareas of Energy, Momentum and Heat Transfer, and Waves, Sound and Light. Electricity and Magnetism questions add 15%. The subarea of Modern Physics contributes 11% to the overall test score, bringing the total weight of the multiple-choice questions section to 80% of the total grade.

The remaining 20% of the MTEL Physics Test score is addressed in two brief essays written as responses to open questions concerning with the subarea, Integration of Knowledge and Understanding. Each essay is worth 10%, and must demonstrate the candidate's theoretical understanding of the subject matter and their ability to apply that understanding concretely.
