MTEL Registration Process

Test Selection: tests are given in two sessions, morning (7:45a/m. to 12:30 p.m.) and afternoon (1:15p.m. to 6 p.m.) and last approximately four hours. A candidate may only take one test per session but may take two sessions in one day.  

Test Sites: the specific test site will be based on availability. Registering early is the best way to increase the chance of being assigned to the requested test site. If registering by mail, list a second choice should the first choice be filled.  

Registration Methods:

  • Internet: must be completed by 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on the registration deadline.
  • US Mail: must be postmarked by the regular registration deadline; must be received by 5 p.m. on late registration deadline.
  • Telephone: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST on the last day of late registration.

Registration Period:

  • Regular: via Internet or US Mail
  • Late: via Internet or US Mail
  • Emergency: Internet or Telephone
  • Note: candidates who have registered previously may register by phone at any time.

Payment Methods:

  • Visa or MasterCard only: the merchant’s name that appears on the credit card statement is Eval Systems Test Fee.
  • Personal or cashier’s check or money order
  • Cash is not accepted.

  • Name
  • Address
  • Daytime phone number
  • Date of Birth
  • Social Security Number or Education Department issued Identification Number
  • Email address
  • Native (First) Language
  • Optional Questions:
    • Ethnicity
    • Gender
  • License Category: Academic, Vocational Technical, Adult Basic Education
  • Specific License Sought as indicated by a two-digit code

Background Questions: The following questions are required of candidates taking any Academic (Pre-K through grade twelve) test. They are not required of candidates taking the Vocational Technical or Adult Basic Education tests. The information provided is kept strictly confidential. All questions must be answered completely or registration materials will not be processed and will be returned,which could postpone the test date.

  • Highest educational level attained.
  • College or university from which the bachelor’s degree has been or will be granted.
  • If applicable, college or university from which an advanced degree has been or will be granted.
  • Undergraduate primary academic major.
  • Number of years since earning bachelor’s degree.
  • Use the two-digit code for the place (in-state or out-of-state) where the educator preparation for licensure will, is or has taken place. This institution will automatically receive notification of the pass/fail status of the test(s) taken.
  • Indicate up to three additional Massachusetts colleges or universities to notify the pass/fail status of the test(s) taken.
